Day 20 Back to Moranbah

Hello family & friends, tonight’s blog is dedicated to the Australian way of life. Since Vanessa & I decided that we were going to do this trip, we have heard stories & even met people that are “Living the dream” and like us are having a ball doing it.

The first couple of stories are personal, as they are related to me. My sister Georgia is a teacher at a little place called Menindee in NSW (near Broken Hill).... But she has not always been a teacher, She decided to have four kids & a husband first and then go back to uni to become a teacher! She now teaches at a school that has a large percentage of aboriginal students and is well equipped to teach there as she has already brought up her 4 boys. But that is what I was talking about at the start, she had a dream & has always wanted to teach. Now she is. Well done Georgy, we are all proud of you.

Next is my other sister Heather, now for those of you who were at the wedding I told you that Heather & I used to fight when we were kids. She started work in an abattoir and worked her way up to being a meat inspector, she then had a baby boy very young & struggled for many years to find her way. Eventually she met her soul mate, had a little girl & they built a successful business together which they sold a few years ago & they semi retired! (Lucky buggers) they have just bought a new house on 2 acres  and are busy planning the next stage in their lives, can’t wait to see what they do next. Proud of you too Heather.

We have met couples in caravan parks, young & old, travelling & working. We have also met people that live in caravan parks because they choose to! We know people that have moved overseas to work, moved home to live with parents while they pay off houses quicker, and many more examples of aussie spirit. The reason I mention this tonight is that I spoke to both my sisters on the phone tonight, and I also had the chance to reflect on some of the people that Vanessa & I have met on our travels.

I also thought about some of the people that we know that are hesitant to try anything new or to take a risk. Now I know we are all different, but it is great to see so many of us doing what we really want to do.

Ness and I are not sure how long this part of our dream will take us, but we have many other dreams & plans to keep us going for many years.

I guess one of the things that changed when I had my accident was my attitude to life, I often say to my sisters & friends, Life is short.... make the most of it. We are only here for a short time, it is up to us what we do with the time we are here.

Ok that was a bit heavy....time for some lightening up. Saw 4 snakes on our travels down & back to Biloela. Hey here is a question for my sister Georgia, what does Biloela mean? I know.... Do you?

Flick sent us a message saying that Brad (my son) was in the local paper expressing his opinion..... Well Flick, that is Brad.... He always has an opinion. And thanks for keeping the article for us.

Ness cooked fish tonight, but she coated it in Dukkah (Pistachio Dukkah.... if that helps) also a bit of lime & some chilli. Oh my god, it was a taste sensation. I am not going to be able to eat at restaurants anymore if she keeps this up!

Tomorrow we have a day off, we have decided just to sleep in, have porridge for brekky & watch the V8’s in the afternoon. Sounds like a perfect day huh?

On the way to Biloela we passed many mine sites, some that have been there for years, others that are just new operations. I know we keep harping about this but unless you actually see it for yourself you have no idea how big this “Boom” is, there are mines & mine camps opening up everywhere..... my advice....Invest in mining companies & anything that supports the mining industry.

Dan lost basketball this week, but they should still make the finals.... stay tuned & I’ll let you know how he is going.

Speak to you tomorrow, some of you have been quiet.... Rob, you ok? Brad Atkins you back from Tenterfield? Georgia where are the questions from the boys? Sandy Wilson.... you on the river in a tube somewhere? What about Trikki Nikki and Lou Lou in Dubai? Merry Berry how was camping? And how about some people that have never written to us....I know you are reading, tell us your news.

अलविदा...... and may peace be with you!

James

Hi Guys. Just had to share my exciting weekend with you.
I went to Acca dacca. It was unbelievable. Lights, lasers, blow up figurines, amazing lead breaks by Angus, girls flashing there breasts, Angus flashing his acdc jocks, fireworks, glowing red horns on thousands of heads,. Have never seen so many black tshirt wearing, mullet headed 50 year olds in the one spot in all my life. I was wearing black too by the way.
I bought Benny a ticket for his 17th birthday about a year ago. He just had his birthday on Valentines day. Marc wasnt keen to go. He doesnt know what he missed.
Had a fantastic time. Didnt stop headbanging and air punching all night.
Only downfall. Today I have a sore shoulder, stiff neck and quads. Feeling old again. Oh well. I would pay $150 again tomorrow to do it all again.
Keep smiling. love sandy.
