Day 61 - Price of Tom

Ok picture this….. I closed the curtains on the window next to my side of the bed tonight, the window still slightly open & a nice breeze coming in. Ness said “Aren’t you going to shut the window?” I said “No it is nice & cool” she then said “It was freezing last night” I said “Well do you want me to close it?” she said “No keep it open if you want it open”….. I mean wasn’t that what I was doing in the first place? I won’t even honour this with a comment from me!!

That is 30 seconds of my life and a useless passage of conversation that we will never get back!

I worked today for 1 hour. It was a return to work meeting for a mine site, so these guys & girls have just come back from R&R and most of them really did not want to be there. Especially when they were told that it was a SAFETY meeting! I mean safety is boring, it is just something the boss does to cover his arse when something goes wrong!

So my challenge is to make it interesting, I try to do it by keeping it real, I make sure that people know I am NOT a safety person. I am just a worker who got hurt & was lucky enough to get on with the rest of my life.

I enjoy the challenge of getting a bunch of guys & sometimes girls who sit there with their legs crossed, arms folded & sunglasses on to “Open up” and listen to what I have to say. And most times it works. Once people realise that I am not telling them what to do, I’m just sharing my story in the hope that it will give them some information on what it is like to get hurt at work. Some people will take it on board, others won’t!

Annie has a real personality now, I mean if I’m honest she was pretty boring for the first 5 months of her life, she just ate, slept & defecated (That means Pooing Brad A) but now she has turned into her own little person. And she is unbelievable!!! She has worked out how to get what she wants, she can tell us what she needs or how she is feeling just by her actions & her expressions. Sure we are working out how to read her better too, but it is awesome just seeing her grow each day, week & month. I’m going to really struggle when I have to fly away for work next year!

Hey Kirstin, we did not get your other blog? But thanks for typing this one and filling us in on Edward’s party…. Tell Edward to make sure he let’s Jacks pig out…. If for nothing else but to think of you all chasing after it!

Meredith… Hmmmm let me think of something that you can use to show other people how smart you are??...... Ok I couldn’t think of anything!....

And Brad A, Mate if you insist on buying cheap $29 mobile phones then I refuse to answer your calls. Today it sounded like we were talking in a cave! Get yourself a decent phone you tight arse!

Annie’s Blog

Edward told me all about his party, Wow Edward what is it like to be One? I can’t wait till I’m One! I’ll be so grown up then. Hey tell your Mum she is a squooshy! I mean how hard is it to type those funny letters in to send a message! Now don’t be rude Annie!

I’m getting a bit tired of this place, I mean Dad goes to work but me & Mum just stay here and do the same thing. Washing, Cleaning the box on wheels, walk around the park. There are lots of people that talk to me but they only stay a few days and then go somewhere else. I hope we go somewhere else soon. My Mum is going a bit stir crazy too….. At least Dad gets to see different places. Ok I better not complain too much…. At least I am having lots of fun with Mum & Dad.

On Friday Dad has promised to take me & Mum to this Jini place, he said it is beautiful and there are some pretty flowers and things to see. I just hope there is somewhere that I can crawl without red dirt…..I’m so over the redness!

See ya all later

Dear Annie,

When we lived in a box on wheels - which your Dad will no doubt say was not as good as yours (and he might be right but don't tell him that bit) - we visited Goondamurra National Park in NSW. The road was very very bumpy going in and Norm did not want to unhitch the van and drive in, but maybe we should have stopped.... The floor broke just over the wheels and the red dust came in. I think we still had some of that red dust there 9 years later even though we tried and tried to sweep and wash it out. Kurujini NP (I don't remember how to spell it properly) has a big rock and when you look through it you feel like you are looking at a scene through the map of Australia. You'll have to stand on Dad's legs though to see as it is a bit off the ground. We are in England now and it is HOT. The houses are not geared for hot weather and we feel like we are in an oven.

Hi Guys
Firstly Ness wanted to tell you that Danni and Greg are engaged and we are all over the moon. You would really like him and I want you and James to meet them when you are back.

Secondly, James you really give Brad A a hard time......

and of course Annie is gorgeous. I love the facebook updates as well as the photos on the blog.

Keep having fun and I hope you get to move on soon as I can tell you are all getting itchy feet.

love

No wonder you're doing so much washing Ness - all that red dirt and Annie wanting to crawl around in everything! I know Lucy goes through two or three outfits a day sometimes. You must be a busy lady!
We're having a Christmas in July function tonight, with a vintage them - having dinner at Cross-town which is an eating house in amongst all the antique shops in Woollongabba. Should be fun. We've all bought vintage style presents too for our kris-kringle game. Lets hope people have been creative.
Have a good one guys.

Hey Guys
Liz thinks you give Brad a hard time,James, so I think you should own up to the little bromance you two have going on so people dont get the wrong idea (dont start picking on me instead) Lol!

going out for sushi tonight, Natsumi loves my cooking but I think if I went to Japan and ate nothing but Japanese for a few days I would be hanging out for a burger pretty bad
Sydni has been calling Natsumi "the good daughter" as she comes home everyday and washes the collar of her school shirt in the bathroom sink before putting it in the clothes basket, she also turns the tap of the shower on and off while she is washing so she doesnt use too much water and keeps her room neat and tidy.
Sydni throws her clothes on top of the basket (I just dont understand the reasoning why she wont lift the lid), has 15-20 min showers and her room is called the cave as its dark, dingy and messy as hell!
might just swap them over

Hi Annie
Today I went back to this place that mum calls the gym. She takes me to this room at the back where I sometimes see William and I have a play in there with all these different toys and them mum comes back to get me. I cry when she comes back in cos it means I have to get back in the carseat and I just don't like it at the moment. I like it when the car moves though.
I learnt how to sit up too and it's fun! I throw my toys away and make mum or dad grab them for me cos I can't reach them. It's a fun game.
I hope you like that Jini place where pretty flowers grow. Mum takes outside to check on these things she calls flowers but they look like green things poking out of the ground to me. I'd better have a nap so mum can clean the house and cook me lunch.
Miss you!
Elise xx

Hi Wood Family!!

I've been a bit quiet, so thought I better add something before you think that I have vanished off the face of the earth! (I'm sure you probably didn't even notice!)

Love the history lessons James! .. I didn't listen when I was at school (especially history, too busy dreaming about Moondoggy), so I am at least learning something reading your blogs. Keep them coming! .. It's the final thing I read at night before I go to bed.

How much longer are you at the same location? Hopefully the day out on Friday for the girls will be a welcome relief! Very envious about the weather you're all having, here in Adelaide we're averaging 15 degress!

A message for Annie:

Hi Annie,

It's Ashwin here! I have some exciting news to share with you!! I got my first 2 teeth! They both came up on the same day! Mummy has been saying to me what feels like such a long time, that I am in pain because my teeth are coming through & that all the pain will go away soon - she lied because it still hurts! She also has been telling me that I can't eat proper food because I have no teeth, now that I have 2 teeth, she is still giving me sloppy food & wont let me eat what her and Daddy eat - as you are older than me, do you eat real food yet?

Take care all! - Love Celeste & Ashwin xxx
